Before you buy.

Do I need to pay for Obsidian or Claude?

Obsidian is free forever for personal use — no trial, no subscription. Claude requires an Anthropic account; the free tier works fine to get started, though a paid plan is recommended if you’re using it daily to sort and review notes.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your vault is plain markdown files stored locally on your own computer — nothing is uploaded to us or stored on any LifeVault server. Claude only sees what you choose to share with it.

I already use Notion. Why switch?

Notion keeps your data in the cloud and needs an internet connection and account to work. Obsidian keeps everything as local files you own forever, and it pairs directly with Claude — so your “second brain” is both private and permanent.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. The folders, templates, and Claude prompts are all pre-built. You unzip the vault, open it in Obsidian, and follow the 15-minute setup guide — no code and no terminal.

Mac or Windows?

Both. Obsidian runs on Mac, Windows, and Linux, and since the vault is just a folder of files, it behaves identically on each.

Does this include a Claude subscription?

No — your Claude account is separate and managed directly through Anthropic. LifeVault is the vault and prompt system that tells Claude how to organize your notes; a free Claude.ai account is enough to get going.

Does Claude organize my life with no input from me?

Not fully hands-off — you still dump your thoughts in, by typing or talking. What Claude handles is the sorting: it reads what you enter, follows the prompts built into the vault, and files it into the right project, area, or note in seconds instead of you doing it manually.
